Desk Job
A downloadable game for Windows
February 2000. Edward Clarke is dead in his study on Hawthorne Road, and the file has landed on your desk.
You will not leave that desk. Everything is on this computer: the incident report, the witness statements, forensics coming back piece by piece, mail that keeps arriving, the town's web as it was in 2000, and a records terminal that answers exactly what you ask it.
Read all of it. Work out who, how, when and why. Then submit the file, and it has to hold, because the DA reads the paperwork and not your hunch.
WHAT'S IN IT
- One complete case, four possible endings
- 17 documents. 14 arrive by post. 3 only if you think to ask for them
- Seven people, and more than one way to find each of them
- A cork board with red string, for when it stops fitting in your head
- The victim's own machine, seized and browsable
- 23 websites that exist because a town would have them: the council, the football club, a model railway page, a conspiracy site, the chippy
- Two genuinely different routes to the answer
IT DOES NOT HELP YOU
The records terminal searches. It does not suggest. Nothing highlights a contradiction, nothing tells you two documents disagree, and the board never draws a line for you. Noticing is the job.
ACCESSIBILITY
- OpenDyslexic typeface and wider spacing
- Larger text
- Eight reading tints with adjustable strength
All of it applies everywhere and persists.
BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD
- Windows only
- Extract the folder and run Desk Job.exe. Nothing installs, nothing touches the registry. Delete the folder when you are done
- Windows will warn you the publisher is unknown. Click More info, then Run anyway. The game is unsigned because a code signing certificate costs more than a free demo makes
This is Case 001. It is the whole demo and a complete case, not a slice that stops halfway.
